US Imports Cleared

Biosecurity Australia issued the below advice on the 19th of July.

The importation of fresh stone fruit from California, Idaho, Oregon and Washington may now be permitted subject to; the Quarantine Act 1908, the application of phytosanitary measures (as specified in the final IRA report) and the application of suitable emergency measures for Drosophila Suzukii - more commonly referred to as the spotted wing drosophila (SWD).

As a result of comments made by the IRA appeals panel Biosecurity Australia has provided further clarification on how the SWD will be assessed in regards to US imports. Biosecurity Australia is also currently conducting a separate IRA for the SWD (for more information see our Apples & Pears page).

Emergency measures have apparently been put into place to ensure the SWD does not enter Australia in a viable state and will remain in place until the IRA has been conducted and longer-term measures have been defined and implemented.
